Privacy Policy — Sidecar Capture

Summary
Sidecar Capture handles everything it captures entirely on your own device. Nothing it captures is ever sent, transmitted, sold, or shared with the publisher or any third party. There are no analytics and no tracking. The only information that ever leaves your device is a small, non-identifying record sent if you uninstall the extension, described in full below. It contains nothing that the extension captured.
What the extension handles
While the extension is active on a browser tab, it observes and temporarily buffers the following, so you can copy it for debugging:
- Console errors, warnings, and a short rolling tail of recent console log messages produced by the page.
- Uncaught errors and unhandled promise rejections produced by the page.
- Failed network requests, recorded only as the request method, the URL path, and the response status code. Query strings are stripped and never captured. Request and response bodies are never captured.
- The path of the current page's URL, shown as a heading in the copied output. Query strings are stripped.
How it is handled
- All of the above is held only in the browser's memory, on your device.
- It is organised per browser tab, and entries are tagged with the page they came from if the tab navigates.
- It is automatically discarded when you close the tab, and can be discarded at any time using the "Clear" button in the extension's popup.
- It is never written to any remote server, never transmitted off your device, and never sold or shared with anyone.
When captured data leaves the extension
The only time any captured information leaves the extension is when you explicitly click the "Copy for Claude" button. At that moment, a formatted text summary is placed on your system clipboard so you can paste it wherever you choose. The extension does not send this anywhere itself. What you do with your clipboard contents is entirely under your control.
If you uninstall the extension
When you remove Sidecar Capture, Chrome opens a short feedback page. Opening that page sends the following to a server operated by Sidecar Tools:
- the extension version
- how many days the extension was installed
- whether you ever successfully copied a capture
That is all. It contains none of what the extension captured — no console output, no errors, no network requests, no URLs, no page paths. It includes no identifier and no account, and there is no way to link it to you or to any other record.
The feedback page itself asks one optional multiple-choice question and offers an optional free-text box. It requires no email address, no account, and no personal details. You can close the page without answering, and nothing further is sent.
This information is stored in a database operated by Sidecar Tools, hosted with Supabase in Sydney, Australia. It is used only to understand why people stop using the extension.
Local storage
The extension stores two values in your browser's local extension storage: the date it was installed, and whether you have ever successfully copied a capture. These are used only to populate the uninstall feedback above.
Permissions
The extension runs on pages you visit so that it can observe console and network errors as they happen — before you decide whether to copy them. This broad access exists solely to provide the single feature described above. The extension does not use this access to read page content for any other purpose, and it does not collect browsing history.
Limited Use compliance
Sidecar Capture's use of information handled on your device is limited to providing the single, user-facing debugging-capture feature described in this policy. The extension does not transfer captured information to anyone; does not use or transfer it for serving advertising; does not use or transfer it for any purpose unrelated to its single purpose; and does not allow humans to read it. Captured information never leaves your device except via your own explicit clipboard action, so it is not sold or shared. The uninstall record described above contains no captured information.
Data retention
The publisher receives none of what the extension captures. On-device buffered data is transient and is cleared on tab close or when you click "Clear". The uninstall record described above is retained by the publisher.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this same location with a revised "Last updated" date.
